Sad day

Merrylee Nursery Class has closed its doors for the last time which is a very sad day for all involved in the nursery. The children and parents of Merrylee would like to say a huge thanks to Mrs Martin, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Barbour and Mr Edgar for all the love, care and affection they have shown to all the children who have attended the nursery over the years. We really appreciate all you have done - Limetree will be very lucky to gain three such wonderful and experienced staff and Mr Edgar will be an asset to whichever role he is assigned. We will miss you, as will the next generation of children who will no longer benefit from such a wonderful local nursery.

Nicola Sturgeon has stepped into the row over closures - educational establishments with more than 80% capacity must be referred to ministers before they can be closed. The council hasn't done this.
The meeting to decide the future of Merrylee Nursery – along with the other schools across the city – is currently ongoing. No decision has yet been taken, but councillors have been told they will not have a free vote on the issue. We need a number of Labour councillors to defy the whip and vote against the proposals so that Merrylee Nursery is saved. Further updates as we receive them.

We would like to thank Councillor Stephen Curran for coming to Merrylee Nursery Class this morning to see for himself what a wonderful facility we share. He took time to talk to the fantastic staff and to see the great job they do and the wonderful relationship they have with the children - who could fail to be impressed? He met working parents who rely on the service and whose childcare arrangements will be thrown into turmoil if the nursery is closed jeopardising their ability to work.

Thank you very much to everyone who attended the public meeting. We have listed the main points from the meeting which we feel are important. Please click here to read them. Please feel free to use them as a guide to word your e-mail to councillors but please don't just copy and paste them as we are advised if a councillor receives 100 identical protests it is registered as one submission. Please take the time to do this - your children will thank you! Also, let us know if there is anything you think we've missed.
